Growling/barking
by: Chris

Thanks, Mark for your help. Think we/I needed to re assert our authority a little bit again. We've noticed a change already in Zed. He'll sit and wait patiently (not all the time) to be invited up on my lap. We are reprimanding him more for growling and barking too. He's our first family dog and my first ever so have tried to read up as much as possible about the breed. Anyway, he's gorgeous and thanks again.

Dachshund Growling and Barking
by: Mark

Sounds like your Dachshund is becoming possessive with you which is not the behavior you want. You are doing the right thing when you take him off your knee when he starts growling.

It's a good idea to only allow him on your knee when you want, not when he jumps up on your knee. With his barking you need to reprimand him with a firm No!! or a sound just before he is about to bark.

The barking when he plays with your children is probably fine. Hope this answers your question.
